Montserrat Travel

Montserrat travel and tourism information & guide on vacation spots and destinations in Montserrat. Montserrat is a British colony and has been since 1871. One of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles in the West Indies, Montserrat has a population of 3,200. Once filled with vegetation, the island is now covered with active volcanoes, deep valleys, and beaches of dark volcanic sand. Tourism, farming, and some industry keep the economy going. On July 18, 1995, the island's Soufriere Hills Volcano erupted. Half the island's population fled after the southern half of the island, including the capital city of Plymouth, was declared unsafe. Recent eruptions in 1996 and 1997 destroyed the capital and the airport. The links included herein relate specifically to travel and tourism in Montserrat.
