Anguilla travel and tourism information & guide on vacation spots and destinations in Anguilla.
Anguilla is a small British colony at the north end of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea. A coral island with a high elevation of 61 meters (200 ft), its dry climate and thin soil create difficult agricultural development. Anguilla boasts scenic beaches, and tourism is important to the colony's survival. The economy relies on fishing and small farming, raising pigeon peas, sweet potatoes, Indian corn, and beans. The population is about 8, 960, and is predominantly black. Anguilla was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493, and was made a British colony in 1650. In 1969, Anguilla became self-governing.
