North America is the larger of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. The main body of this somewhat rectangular continent is extended in the northwest by the peninsula of Alaska and its Aleutian Islands chain, in the northeast by the world's largest island (Greenland), in the southeast by Florida's peninsula, and in the southwest by Mexico and the land bridge to South America.
