United States Virgin Island National Park

Virgin Islands National Park was established in 1956 to protect a large portion of Saint John Island, an island in the West Indies 55 miles west of Puerto Rico, as well as the warm, shallow waters that surround it. More than half the park's total area of 14,689 acres is on the hilly island, which is 9 miles long and 5 miles wide; the remainder consists of off-shore waters and tiny islands. There are both land and underwater attractions that include a self-guiding trail for snorkelers and wildlife walks.
