Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Park
Kings Canyon national park & Sequoia national forest. Sequoia National Park, established in 1890, lies in east central California about 55 miles southeast of Fresno. It has an area of 402,482 acres. The park's giant sequoia trees, many of which are more than 2,000 years old, include the General Sherman Tree, which is about 275 feet tall, has a diameter of 36 feet, and may be about 3,000 years old. Mount Whitney (14,494 feet) is in the eastern section of the park. Animals include deer, black bear, fox, bighorn sheep, coyote, and bobcat. The park was designated a Biosphere Reserve in 1976.
