Lake Clark National Park and Preserve

Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is in southern Alaska on the western shore of Cook Inlet, 125 miles southwest of Anchorage. It was given national parks status in 1980. The park covers an area of 2,636,839 acres, the preserve an area of 1,407,293 acres. A rugged, mountainous region, it encompasses the Chigmit Mountains section of the Aleutian Range, including two active volcanoes: Iliamna and Redoubt. It includes dozens of long valley glaciers, hundreds of waterfalls, and long glacial lakes such as Lake Clark, which drains southwestward into Bristol Bay and provides a spawning ground for the salmon fishery.
