Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords in southern Alaska occupies the rugged, fjord-indented coast of the Kenai Peninsula, where glaciers extend their rivers of ice into the Gulf of Alaska. The park occupies an area of 669,541 acres. The many offshore islands are protected as part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. The waters around these small islands are habitat for whales, Steller's sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. Seabirds nest there in great numbers. Gulls and bald eagles compete for the rich salmon harvest. The mountainous areas of the park provide refuge for mountain goats, moose, bears, wolverines, and foxes.
