Gulf of Farallones National Marine Sanctuary
The Gulf of Farallones National Marine Sanctuary is located just north and west of the mouth of the San Francisco Bay. The sanctuary encompasses over 1,255 square miles and its total area is larger than the state of Rhode Island. The Farallon Islands, which are located approximately 30 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge, are a national wildlife refuge offering resting and breeding sites for marine mammals and seabirds. The nutrient-rich waters of the area attract many species of marine life and the islands are home to the largest concentration of breeding seabirds in the continental U.S. Below are links that provide information about the Gulf of Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.
