Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park in eastern Nevada was established in 1986, incorporating the former Lehman Caves National Monument (created in 1922) and part of Humboldt National Forest. It covers 77,100 acres. The caves, 200 feet deep in limestone formations, are on the eastern flank of Wheeler Peak, one of the highest mountains of the Great Basin and site of the southernmost glacier in the United States. The ecosystem of the park spans almost as great a range as at the Grand Canyon: from semiarid at the lowest elevations to arctic tundra at the highest.
