Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary

The Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary is located approximately 52 miles northwest of the Golden Gate Bridge, at the edge of the continental shelf. The Cordell Bank is a solid granite underwater mountain, rising to within 120 feet of the ocean surface at its highest points. The extraordinarily nutrient-rich ocean waters and the topography of the Cordell Bank have created one of the most biologically productive areas on the West Coast. The site is a popular feeding ground for many marine mammals and seabirds. Because of its location off the coast of California and the depth of the Cordell Bank, very few people have the means to enjoy its riches. Below are links that provide information about the Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary.
