Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park in southern Utah, was established in 1964. It covers 337,570 acres at the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers, a desert region in the center of the Colorado Plateau in which the two rivers have carved deep, winding gorges. The large rapids of the Cataract Canyon section, downstream from the rivers' junction, provide the rafter and kayaker with the ultimate in whitewater challenges. Towering cliffs and spires of bright red sandstone bear the enigmatic petroglyphs of a vanished people, the Anasazi, who populated the plateau region in prehistoric time.
