Big Cypress National Preserve

The Big Cypress National Preserve was originally designated as such in 1974 to ensure the preservation and protection of the natural scenic, floral and faunal, and recreational values of the Big Cypress Watershed. The preserve takes its name from the fact that it covers an immense area of land, most of which is covered by cypress strands, creating a very unique landscape. The Big Cypress Watershed is located in Ochopee, Florida and its importance to the Everglades National Park was the deciding factor in the establishment of the preserve.
