Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was an engagement in the U.S. Civil War fought on June 27, 1864 in northwestern Georgia. Union forces advancing on Atlanta under Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman (see Atlanta campaign) defeated Confederate troops under Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park commemorates the event.
