Golden Spike National Historic Site
The Golden Spike National Historic Site was built to commemorate the driving of the final spike, the Golden Spike, into the tracks that connected the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. The Golden Spike National Historic Site is located in Promontory Utah. Thousands of workers from the Union Pacific railroad had pushed west from Omaha, Nebraska to meet thousands of workers from the Central Pacific railroad who had laid tracks east from Sacramento, California. Recognition of the site began to grow with its centennial celebration in 1969. Below are links that contain information about the Golden Spike National Historic Site.
