Friendship Hill National Historic Site
The Friendship Hill National Historic Site was once the western Pennsylvania frontier home of Albert Gallatin. Albert Gallatin was well-known during the Jeffersonian era, yet his memory has faded in comparison to Jefferson himself, James Madison, and other statesmen of the time. Gallatin served successfully as the Secretary of the Treasury from 1801 to 1814, the longest tenure of any Secretary in U.S. history. As a member of the House of Representatives, Gallatin and created and chaired the Ways and Means Committee, which determines how government funding is allocated.
