Fort Bowie National Historic Site
The Fort Bowie National Historic Site is located in Willcox, Arizona and served as the headquarters of U.S. military operations against the Chiricahua Apaches in that region. The natural spring located near Fort Bowie on the Apache Pass was one of the few dependable sources of water and attracted scores of Indians, emigrants, prospectors, and soldiers based at Fort Bowie. The Fort Bowie National Historic Site is not accessible by road and lies at the end of a 1.5-mile foot trail. The closest major airport is in Tucson, although a small airport is available in Willcox.
