Craters of the Moon National Monument

Craters of the Moon National Monument, established in 1924, covers 53,545 acres in south central Idaho. The area contains volcanic cones, lava beds, craters, tunnels, and caves created by lava flows. Some of the many craters are in excess of 325 feet deep and 2,600 feet across. There are also more than 35 cinder cones, including Big Cinder Butte, which is about 620 feet high.
