Coronado National Memorial

The Coronado National Memorial is a standing reminder of the first major exploration of the American Southwest by a European. The exploration, led by Vasquez de Coronado, was a futile search for the fabled cities of Cibola. The memorial is located amidst a scenic oak woodland along the Mexican border in Hereford, Arizona. The memorial and visitor center are open year round and the surrounding areas offer hiking trails, scenic overlooks, picnic areas and caves. The visitor center provides some insight into the culture of the region and the history of Coronado's adventures in the American Southwest.
