City of Rocks National Reserve
The City of Rocks National Reserve lies just two miles west of Almo and eighteen miles southeast of Oakley in south central Idaho. The City of Rocks takes its name from the skyline of rock pinnacles, some as high as 70 stories, that create a natural skyline of metropolitan proportions. The City of Rocks was a notable stopping point during several waves of migration toward the Pacific. An estimated fifty thousand people traveled the trails that wind through the City of Rocks in 1852 on their way to the gold fields of California.
