Buxton Historic Site & Museum

The Buxton Historic Site and Museum is located in Ontario, Canada. and serves as a memorial to the Elgin Settlement, one of the last stops on the Underground Railroad and haven for fugitive slaves in the years preceding the Civil War. The Elgin Settlement in Canada has grown over the years and is now known as the town of Buxton, inhabited in large part by the descendants of those who were able to escape from the South via the Underground Railroad. Although Buxton is no longer the flourishing community that it once was, it remains a vital historical reminder of slavery in the U.S. and the people who finally triumphed over it.
