Antiquities and Historical Museums
Museums are institutions or buildings where objects of aesthetic value are preserved and displayed. Functions of the art museum include acquiring, conserving, and exhibiting works of art; providing art education for the general public; and conducting art historical research. Museums of science and industry can be classified into two general types: historical museums, which preserve and display objects that have been important to the development of science and technology, and centers, which teach the principles related to these fields. The two types are not necessarily mutually exclusive, although most institutions fall into one category or the other. The links included herein deal specifically with antiquities and historical museums.
