Rugby is a sportdeveloped by the British that involves kicking, passing, and tackling and is very popular in such countries as France, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and, of course, Great Britain. American football is the direct descendant of rugby. Rugby union games consist of 2 teams of 15 amateur players that run on a grass field with a ball similar in appearance to an American football. Rugby league games, on the other hand, consist of 2 teams of 13 professional players that have more freedom in blocking and tackling. This section focuses on rugby unions in North America.
