Ballooning

Hot air balloons, balloon festivals, ballooning adventures & balloon rides. Balloons are aircrafts that use heated air or lighter-than-air gases such as hydrogen or helium to stay buoyant. The gases or heated air fill a sac constructed out of expandable, airtight material like silk, cloth, plastic, or rubber. Attached below the balloon is a platform, gondola, or basket, for holding passengers and equipment. Hot air, which was first used to make balloons rise, is controlled by burners mounted on the balloon's basket. Later, hydrogen and helium were used, allowing balloons to rise by the discarding of ballast and fall by the release of gas. This section features resources on ballooning.
