Rowing
Rowing is a sport in which competitors use oars to move boats through water at the fastest speed possible. Rowing events consist of sculling and sweep competitions. Sculling events involve one, two, or four rowers who use two oars to propel the boat. Sweep events involve a team of two, four, or eight members who each use one oar to row the boat. Rowing events were first held in England in the 18th century and became popular in Canada, Australia, and the United States in the19th century. Rowing has been an Olympic event since 1896.
