Rodeos
A rodeo, which is the Spanish word for "a gathering place of cattle," is a sport comprised of a collection of events originating from the traditional riding and roping activities practiced by 19th century cowboys. Standard rodeo events include bareback riding, saddle riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, and barrel racing. Contestants in the riding competitions must remain on their animals for 8 seconds and points are based on the performance of both the rider and the animal. Modern rodeos are popular in the United States and Canada and parts of Europe and Australia. This section focuses on rodeos.
