Racetracks & motor speedway, auto racing tracks & dirt track racing, nascar race tracks & car racetrack facilities. Automobile racing is a popular international sport on both amateur and professional levels and involves a wide variety of cars, tracks, and courses. The first car races were run on open roads lined with spectators between cities in Europe and the United States, but were prohibited after ten people were killed in an accident during the 1903 Madrid-Paris race. The first track constructed specifically for automobile races was in Le Mans, France. Although the Indianapolis Motor Speedway held its first race on a dirt track, it was covered with bricks in 1911. This section focuses on Australian and American racetracks.
