Business and Economics Reference and Resources
Business schools emerged in the United States in the late 18th century as a result of the Industrial Revolution. Initially, these secondary schools consisted of secretarial and vocational colleges that taught various office skills. As society began to grow and change, it became evident that there was a need for business schools at the college level that emphasized the study of finance, management and economics. In broad terms, economics pertains to the analysis of the production, exchange and consumption of goods and services in society and the achievement of the optimum level of such activities.
