Gender Equity in Education

Much social and political furor in the last century has revolved around "gender equity;" that is, whether an individual receives different respect, attention, training or salary based solely on his or her sex. Particularly after World War Two, when men returned from overseas to find women doing quite well in formerly male-only jobs, gender equity has been an irritating thorn in the side of our society. Women have been treated unfairly by male bosses and competitors; men, too, have occasionally been subject to a different style of gender discrimination.
