America has been working towards equity between all races, towards tolerance and acceptance of racial and cultural differences, and equality in education and employment, for over 40 years. Cultural diversity in the classroom is now the norm, but can sometimes cause as much confusion and discontent as the separatist policies of the past. The political and social issues surrounding race, prejudice and educational reform sometimes make it difficult to perceive a clear path for our children's future.
