Military Lifestyle and Programs

Military academies educate and train professional officers of all branches of the armed forces. They use new methods of training and new equipment for use in warfare or peacetime. All major countries have such academies, some with both government-supported and private academies. Modern military academies were founded by 18th-century European monarchs to train the younger sons of nobles or enlisted veterans. Other academies trained officers for such technical services as the artillery, engineers, or logistics staff. Naval academies were established in the19th century, and air academies were founded in the 20th. Below are links to U.S. military academies.
