Assessments and evaluations in educational circles are complementary terms but are not interchangeable for each other. Assessments are formal means of determining the skills and learning potential of students. Teachers, guidance counselors, child study team members, and other learning specialists perform assessments. Evaluations are ratings that mark the proficiency level of learning or measure the amount and degree of learning that a student. The same professionals also perform evaluations.
