Educational Assessment and Evaluations

Assessments and evaluations in educational circles are complementary terms but are not interchangeable for each other. Education assessments are formal means of determining the skills and learning potential of students. Teachers, guidance counselors, child study team members, and other learning specialists perform educational assessments and assessment of learning. Evaluations are ratings that mark the proficiency level of learning or measure the amount and degree of learning that a student. The same professionals also perform evaluations. The most standard form of educational evaluations is standards assessment tests and subject matter tests.
