Gopher

Gopher is an Internet application protocol designed for maintaining hierarchically-organized file structures on servers that are part of an overall information structure. Popular for several years, especially with universities, Gopher was a step toward the World Wide Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). The advent of hypertext links, Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and the graphical browser, Mosaic, made the use of Gopher virtually obsolete. Many of the original file structures still exist and can be accessed through most web browsers that still support Gopher protocol. The links included herein relate to Gopher.
