Spam Control and Protection
The Internet is such an inexpensive means of advertising in bulk that it is widely abused. Any advertiser can compile or buy a distribution list of thousands and bombard every address on it with unwanted advertising. Many users find that just deleting this "spam" takes up too much of their time online. Service providers have tried by various means to reduce spam, but unscrupulous advertisers, not caring how much of other people’s time they waste, continue to send it out in great volume. To combat this problem, various software programs have been designed that eliminate or reduce spam. Additionally, various statutes placing limits on bulk e-mailing are being debated on a continuous basis in Congress.
