Internet Telephony

Internet telephony has been around since about 1995, but has only recently become commonplace. With a minimum of equipment, you can talk online without paying for long-distance calls. If you and your friend both have computer cams, you can even see each other as you speak! But for the basics, all you need is a telephony client, a PPP connection, Windows 95, Mac OS7.x, or better, a sound card, and a microphone and speakers, or a headset. A connection of at least 28.8kbps is best. The links below take you to sites that will provide all the information you need to get up and talking on the Net.
