PC Software and Utilities
A personal computer (PC) is a microcomputer based on a microprocessor, a small semiconductor chip performing multiple operations for a central processing unit or CPU. PCs also have a keyboard, and monitor, as well as other input/output devices. Computer memory size and processing speed determine the computer's power and speed. One unit of memory, the byte, holds one character of text. A kilobyte is 1,025 bytes, a megabyte holds 1,024 kilobytes, and finally, a gigabyte holds 1,024 megabytes. The increasing power of PCs are blurring the distinction between minicomputers and mainframes, and even large amounts of memory may be upgraded.
