Compilers
Compiler design and free compiler resources. Compilers are computer software applications used for translating programs from higher languages into lower, more easily understandable languages for other computers. High-level languages are similar to human languages and are used for problem-solving in particular applications areas, i.e., COBOL for business, and FORTH for scientific applications. High-level languages are versatile and can be used by many different computer systems in the same format, and are thus called machine independent. A compiler, designed for one specific computer, is machine dependent. Compilers are used for long programs for the best efficiency, and manufacturers of computers supply compilers for each separate program. The links included herein offer information about compilers.
