Turing Machine

Turing Machine & Alan Turing biography. Like many early computer designers, English mathematician Alan Turing was both eccentric and brilliant. He was also a pioneer, and his Turing Machine inspired one of the world’s first working programmable electronic digital computers. While still only a graduate student, Turing authored "On Computable Numbers with an Application to the Entscheidungs problem," a paper based on the idea that some mathematical problems don’t lend themselves to algorithmic representations and hence cannot be solved by computers. This theoretical model that the paper describes came to be known as a Turing Machine and eventually spawned many other "thought experiments." The links included herein relate to the Turing Machine.
