Inventors & Pioneers

Computer and internet inventors and pioneers. Famous inventors and inventions involved in the history of computers. In the 19th century, British mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage worked out the principles of the modern digital computer. Grace Murray Hopper, an American Navy officer, mathematician, and a pioneer in data processing, worked as a programmer on the Mark I (1944), the first large-scale U.S. computer. Following in these two computing pioneers’ footsteps are hundreds of inventors and innovators, including the "cyber-elite" group of the last few decades, among them Paul Allen, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, David Packard, Idei Nobuyuki, Louis Gerstner, Jerry Yang, Steve Ballner, Nathan Myhrvold, Michael Dell, and Steve Case.
