Twins News and Publications

While more than 98 percent of all human pregnancies result in single births, the occasional appearance of twins, triplets, etc. makes for an interesting family life. There are two types of multiple births, including identical and fraternal. Identical twins, for instance, are the result of a single fertilized egg and are therefore identical in appearance and physical attributes. Fraternal twins, on the other hand, are polyzygotic, meaning that they come from two fertilized eggs. Such twins are not identical in their physical appearance and can even be of differing sexes. Interestingly enough, triplets or other multiple birth beyond triplets can result in both mono- and polyzygotic fertilization, so that some identical and some non-identical children may result. The links included herein relate to newsletters and other publications dealing with twins and multiple births.
