Bonds & Fixed Income Investments
A bond is a security with a fixed interest rate that is issued against a loan by a variety of entities, including corporations, banks, and governments. Bond ratings indicate the "quality" of the bond as determined by the margin of protection associated with it. Corporate bonds may vary in their quality, ranging from AAA (safest) to D (bonds in default). Government bonds are typically thought of as the safest investments and have zero risk in return for a lower yield.
