Labor laws exist to protect employees from the injustices that can occur in an unregulated capitalist system. Legislation in the field of labor began to immerge as a result of the industrial revolution and the demand for workers that it placed on society. Because factories and assembly lines could run without rest, those at the management level wanted to have people in place to assist the machinery at all hours of the day. Labor laws dictate the minimum age for workers in the United States in addition to the minimum wage that can legally be paid to workers.
