Cost of Living Comparisons & Analysis
Cost of Living - comparison, analysis, calculators, index, adjustment & allowance. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics measures changes in the cost of a typical "market basket" of services and goods purchased in a U.S. metropolitan area. If the average cost of the market basket was $100 in 1982-84, and $157 in 1996, the price increased by 57%; the index would be 157 in 1996. The Consumer Price Index is the chief measure of inflation in the US. Adjusted for regional differences, the cost of its market basket is the principal gauge of the cost of living. Government and private business use the CPI in determining wages, welfare benefits, and entitlements like Social Security. The links included herein relate to cost of living analysis and comparisons.
