Labor Unions & Labor Issues
Labor, labor unions & local unions. The most basic and the smallest element of the labor unions are the local unions, referred to simply as locals. A local represents the workers in a particular plant, city, or other specified area. Within the local unions usually exists a hierarchy of power that begins with a shop steward that heads a particular division and usually follows through to a local president, secretary, and treasurer. At the national level, unions are comprised of all of the local unions in a particular industry or craft. National unions promote and lobby for legislation that will be favorable to their members and their respective industries or crafts. The links included herein relate to labor unions and labor issues.
