Tobacco Industry

The tobacco industry, beginning over 300 years ago in Tidewater Maryland and Virginia, has long been a source of wealth for individuals and major corporations alike. While the industry is dominated by a few huge firms, there still exist some smaller companies that belong to the industry. It is, however, an industry that has come under fire of late, as top-ranking officials of major tobacco companies have been publicly tried and their companies fined billions of dollars. Various states throughout the U.S. have filed lawsuits against the major corporations, alleging that smoking has cost their governments billions of dollars in damages in the form of publicly subsidized health care. Below are smoking and tobacco news articles, and tobacco industry and market resources.
