Bond Ratings and Research Evaluations

A bond is a security with a fixed interest rate that is issued against a loan by a variety of entities, including corporations, banks, and governments. Bond ratings indicate the "quality" of the bond as determined by the margin of protection associated with it. Ratings differ by services, but one of the most widely used systems includes the ratings of AAA and AA for High grade bonds, A and BBB for Medium grade bonds, BB and B for Speculative bonds, and CCC, CC, C, and D for Default bonds.
