Government & Tax Laws
Taxation: a compulsory contribution levied upon persons, property or business for the support of government. Tax revenue is generally the major source of financing for public services and works. Taxation has not always been the chief source of revenue for all governments. In Athens the people had use of income from publicly owned mines. In the Middle Ages, monies flowed upward as rent fees and fees paid in lieu of military services. In some modern societies, revenue from government-controlled resources also provides an alternative to taxation. Income from sales of natural resources is also a source, in nations where such resources are not privately owned. The links included herein relate to government and tax laws.
