Photography Clubs and Groups
The word photography is derived from the Greek words for "light" and "writing" and was first used by John Herschel in 1839. During that year, the conception of the photographic process was made public. Among the first to successfully create a photograph were Hippolyte Bayard and William Henry Fox Talbot. In recent years photography has grown even more diverse as artists are abandoning traditional 20th Century subjects and styles and focusing on the imagery of popular culture. Advertising and movies are the typical outlets for such creativity. The fascination with such subjects has led to use of the term "postmodernist," which signifies the end of earlier 20th Century styles and interests.
