America and Western Europe Art and Paintings

European art and europe painting resources. Early and native american paintings and art. The time period between 1750 and 1900 can best be summarized, from an artistic standpoint, by briefly examining the various styles that arouse during those years. During the 18th Century, Paris came to the forefront of the European art scene through the emergence of the decorative rococo style. Eventually, however, that style gave way as more serious artists, inspired by the French revolution, explored neoclassicism and romanticism during the late 18th century. These styles were seriously challenged in the middle of the 19th century as artists began to produce works that celebrated the lives and feelings of everyday people. The end of the 19th century saw the rise of impressionist and later postimpressionist artists, among them Vincent van Gogh. The links included herein relate to works of art, and specifically painting, from Western Europe and the United States.
