Blacksmithing & Metalworking
Metal working, blacksmith and metal art, and decorative iron work. Iron has been used for a multitude of purposes, many of which are practical in nature. Although the substance was utilized primarily in the building of tools, weapons, and furnishings during the Roman occupation of England, it was also used decoratively during the Iron Age and in classical times. By the 11th century, Anglo-Saxons and Scandinavians began using iron to create intricately designed and decorated hinges that secured the doors of churches and cathedrals. By the time of the Industrial revolution, iron was mass-produced, thus decreasing the role of the decorative blacksmith. The links included herein relate specifically blacksmithing and metal working.
